‘They Succeeded Both on and Off the Field’: UVA Football Players Remembered with Online Fundraisers

The three fatal survivors of Sunday late evening’s shooting on the campus of the College of Virginia are being recalled in online fundraisers set up in their names.

D’Sean Perry, Devin Chandler and Lavel Davis Jr., all of whom were football players on the UVA team, were killed after the transport they were on gotten back from a school excursion to Washington, D.C. Two other understudies — who were recognized as Michael Hollins Jr. and Marlee Morgan by various outlets, including WSLS 10 — were injured during the shooting.

The suspect, Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., 22, an UVA understudy and a former individual from the football team, was taken into guardianship Monday morning.

He faces three counts of second-degree murder and three includes of using a handgun in the commission of a felony, UVA Police Boss Tim Longo said on Monday.

“He was a leader on and off the field who strived to be the best, encouraged everyone else to be their best, and succeeded in the classroom.

He was a man of faith who cherished his companions, family, local area, and football profoundly. An avid admirer of art and music whose artistic ability was unmatched.”

In the remarks section of the fundraiser, many companions and two sororities from UVA left messages for Perry, along with donations for his family.

One remark from a companion of Perry’s reads: “You always put a grin on my face and offered me grace and love! You were an example for many of us, more youthful understudy athletes, to follow within the Gulliver Prep program. Today I’m aching and mad because the framework failed you at a second when you were giving all to achieve your NFL dreams!

Another talent just gone too early… Soar, old buddy! Love you forever Rambo LL10!”

A former collaborator and companion of Chandler’s mother, Dalayna Chandler, created a GoFundMe to assist Dalayna with funeral costs.

“I have trust that Devin’s mother won’t have to deal with financial weight on top of what she is already facing,” Shelly Crais wrote in an update on the fundraiser.

Chandler, a wide recipient, was from Huntersville, N.C. and transferred to UVA from the College of Wisconsin last year.

One remark on the fundraiser reads, “Devin was such a light in this world. Always smiling and making others grin. We as a whole have special recollections of Devin that we will never forget. Love and prayers to the Chandler family.”

According to the fundraiser, Chandler’s funeral will be hung on Dec. 15.

A GoFundMe for Davis’ family calls him “a star both on and off the field.”

“He cherished his parents, his family, his local area, and he had an adoration for football like no other,” the fundraiser’s description reads, in part. “He buckled down coming back from two injuries to be one of the best school football players in the country.”

UVA professor Jack Hamilton composed on Twitter that he had both Chandler and Davis, a wide beneficiary, as understudies at the college.

Hamilton proceeded to say that Chandler repeatedly came to his office hours session to learn about UVA after transferring.
